Implementation Regulation (EU) 2022/1492, adding L-valine as an authorised feed additive

Authorization of L-valine produced by Escherichia coli CCTCC M2020321 as a feed additive for all animal species
On 8 September 2022, the European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1492, adding an amino acid strain of Escherichia coli called L-valine to the list of authorized feed additives for animals in Regulation (EC) 1831/2003.
This Regulation establishes a list of acceptable feed additives for the market and the process for supervision of such. For an additive to be considered, it must have no adverse effects on animals, humans, or the environment, favorably affecting the characteristics of the product or the animal, satisfy the nutritional needs of animals, and not be an antibiotic.
As the EFSA Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) found that the production strain and DNA were not detectable in any final product, it considered that L-valine from E. Coli meets these requirements.
The European Commission thus authorized it as a nutritional additive to the functional group labeled “amino acids, their salts and analogues”. It can now be used by producers of animal feed to further supplement amino acids
